IL085 Lemon is a Jacquard cloth created by weaving different color threads to create intricate patterns - or paintings woven with thread. This particular design carries a lemon pattern with asymmetrical borders as a modern take on a traditional design. The fact that the borders are uneven forces us to create harmony, to go a little beyond what we usually do.
The engineering of this cloth allows the Jacquard to be read equally well from either side - you have a reversible fabric that changes its dominant color scheme depending on what side you pick. The bright colors are a continuation of the modern aesthetic allowing these items to be right at home in traditional as well as modern interiors. Design created exclusively for F|S

IL085 is woven out of the same long-staple wet-combed 100% linen thread we use to weave everyone's favorite All-Purpose medium weight IL019. However, because it needed to be thicker for towels, it has a 16% higher thread count and therefore a heavier weight of 6.8 ounces a square yard.

This fabric is narrow at 20" wide with a finished selvage - this allows you to spend less time cutting and sewing and get to the fun part of using your items sooner. Because this cloth is woven using the same size thread with nearly an identical thread count for warp and weft - the fabric will have even shrinkage of 8% both for length and width. Shrinkage is based on a warm wash and low-heat dry.

This fabric is 100% linen ( flax) and has received rigorous Oeko-Tex certification ensuring that the items are biodegradable, recyclable, and free of harmful toxins or irritants.

Narrow width does take some creative adjusting.

Narrow cloth is perfect for:

  • Bags
  • Placemats and napkins
  • Runners
  • Decorative Pillows
  • Appliance Covers
  • Potholders
  • Aprons
  • and, of course, Kitchen Towels ( these will leave no lint on glass and are great for fine china and crystal)

Is the colored section of this centered in the fabric? One of the photos seems to show that it is not.

It is woven to have asymmetrical look so the middle portion is not centered.

Can these patterned linens be fringed? I tried on one piece without success. I'm making placemats & a runner.

Hello, Yes you are able to fringe these fabrics. You will need to cut away the selvedges to allow the threads to pull away nicely from the cut ends. I would then hem the side edges or fray those too if desired.

I am thinking of making placemats and napkins. To calculate yardage I am wondering what the width of each color is on this and other similar fabrics that have borders. It would be fun to play with cutting the pieces in different ways to make a set of table linens more playful.

Do you have a photo of the fabric flat that shows selvedge to selvedge?

I added this to the site so you are able to see the pattern selvedge to selvedge.

What length is recommended for a kitchen towel 20" wide (including hem allowance)?

We have a tutorial that we offer for one of our other narrow linens, IL084 where we recommend cutting the linen in 27" increments. If you would like us to send that tutorial to you as a guideline, please email us at askfabrics-store.com and reference this response.

Just lovely. Weight is heavier than most kitchen towels. The colors are vibrant. The texture feels so good on your hands. It performs beautifully.

Lovely!

I made kitchen towels and just love how they look. Even better they work so well. I had forgotten how much better linen is for toweling than cotton. I am never going back to cotton.

Lemon lime lovliness

The design is perfect in a kitchen. The fresh green is delightful. The weight and feel of the linen is just ✅️ right. It blends nicely with my other assorted greens. I used the 1:1.6 ratio, then added seams on the first towel. .

Very Pretty Fabric!

Made dishtowels out of the green, yellow and orange. Washed and dried fabric before sewing. It did not shrink much in length as I still had almost 36" after drying. The fabric has a soft hand and was easy to work with. Haven't used them yet but hoping for good results!

Very pretty.

I made 2 dishtowels and 2 potholders out of 2 yds of this fabric for my daughter's kitchen. Everything turned out so nice. It's so easy to work with and my daughter loved the colors.

3 towels from the 3 different colors. Made mine about 28" long.

New kitchen curtains made from this jacquard lemon print. I love this fabric- just be aware when you buy it that you will need to have your project in mind to utilize the narrow width and the uneven edges. The very narrow edge on one side and wider edge on the opposite side were perfect for what I had in mind. And the shorter length for my curtains was planned on purpose- however, it used up the entire 2 yards of linen fabric that I purchased.
