IL019 All-purpose Cobalt Fs Signature Finish - 100% Linen Fabric - Medium (5.3 oz/yd2), Width 58"
Dark, brooding and dramatic, the intense blue of COBALT linen was ideal for Renaissance painter Jacopo Vignali's heightened, operatic scenes.
A leading painter in the Florentine Seicento, Vignali's Baroque paintings were defined by flowing swathes of jewel-toned fabric in midnight blues and crimson reds; set amidst theatrical, directional light, these richly toned colors amplify the romantic agony and tragedy of his stories.
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.
Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.
As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

Customer Questions and Answers
Can you please recommend a thread color match to Cobalt for Gutterman Mara thread?
Gutermann Mara Number 11 or 13 appear to be great matches for cobalt. This converts to 275 in retail colors. For more color matches see our Help Center article here: support.fabrics-store.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058715271-Sewing-with-Linen-Needle-and-Thread-Suggestions?page=1#comment_27963345798157
Can you provide hex, rbg, or Pantone codes for your linen colors? It's hard to guess what the color is. The color codes mentioned are registered and can be trusted. Thanks!
Hi, thanks for your feedback. We do not have these codes available for our colors. Dye colors can vary slightly between batches, so these codes could change with each new dye lot. Instead we offer samples so you can see the actual color in person.

Q about this cobalt 19 weight -- is this really dark blue? It appears so in the sample online. There are no customer postings. So often colors are so different in photos. I want a really dark blue and hope this is it! My thanks. Abigail
The Cobalt is a medium to dark blue, but if you are looking for a very dark navy that would be the IL019 Dress Blue. Since the colors on the monitors and pictures posted does vary, we always recommend ordering a swatch to make sure the color will work for your projects.
When I finish this one I. Cobalt it'll be the 11th Dewy Crossbody Bag I've made. The first 2 were for me but the rest have been for family and friends and everyone loves them. The Cobalt is being lined with FS IC023 Paisley Serge Red and the combination is stunning. The good news is I have 2 more yards of Cobalt in my stash that is destined to be another make of FS Abbey pants and a top in IC023 Catherine White from a pattern that has yet to be determined. I do love the high quality goods from fabrics-store.com.
This is the second time I am making a dress from this gorgeous color! It looks like a deep indigo rather than cobalt to me, which happens to be a color I love. This is my first time to use the signature finish and I look forward to seeing how it finishes off. I'm excited for my new dress!
COBALT Signature linen is such a beautiful color and is a wonderful fabric to sew!
These fabrics are a dream to sew with and they are much more comfortable than I ever thought they'd be in fitted garments like the pants. I especially like making pieces that can be worn several ways. These fabrics are a dream to sew with and they are much more comfortable than I ever thought they'd be. I used to have a jumpsuit in this lovely color and I really liked it but over time the seams wore out because it was pull-on over the hips with no zipper. A jumpsuit was actually one of my original designs for myself and my daughters when I started Ma Ma Osa so many years ago and I loved the fit, I just didn't think about the wear over time. The opportunity to make another navy jumpsuit to replace that treasured piece is a welcome addition to my wardrobe. Cobalt Signature Finish 5.3oz Linen is the fabric I picked for this project. The color is a very pleasing navy and the texture as always is wonderful. The weight also gives the leg area a great cozy flow when you walk (or skip).
