4C22 Rustic Optic White Softened - 100% Linen Fabric - Heavy (7.1 oz/yd2), Width 57"
At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Customer Questions and Answers
Which is a good linen and or a cotton linen blend to do lined slipcover.?
We prefer our 4C22 heavyweight fabric for slipcovers. This is a 100% linen fabric which is sturdy while also being soft. Since they will be lined, you may also enjoy our IL019 medium weight 100% linen fabrics too.
Hi, where is this fabric made/imported from?
All of our linen fabrics are grown and milled across Europe and are all Okeo-Tex Certified. Read more about our fabrics here: support.fabrics-store.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000218746-Linen-Quality-Certification
Is this fabric suitable for natural dyeing?
Yes, you can naturally dye this fabric, but you will need to scour it first to prepare it for dyeing. If you would like a fabric that is pfd, please look for the bleached 4C22 with no finish.
Would this be a good fabric to make throw pillows and add yarn couching? If not, what would you recommend?
Hello, yes this fabric is ideal for throw pillows with couching because it has enough structure while also being soft to the touch. This fabric is suitable for both machine and hand sewn couching.
Would this be good for a kitchen apron? Or would a medium weight be better? Thank you!
Hello, Both weights are great for aprons, it simply comes down to your own personal preference and use. If you want to use your apron in the kitchen/garden/art or similar and often wipe your hands and get nice and messy with the apron, I'd recommend the heavyweight. If you prefer something as a clothes protector and enjoy a comfortable, less 'heavy duty' apron, the medium weights are for you. I hope this helps!
Is this fabric good for upholstering a couch?
Yes, this fabric can be used for upholstery. We always recommend getting a sample for you to feel in person or give to your upholsterer so you can ascertain its suitability for your project.
I am making altar cloths for communion I need three weights of linen. If I use this for the coarse linen which two lighter weight linens should I order to pair with this one. They do need to be the same color. This would be the heavy what for the medium weight and what for the fine weight. Thank you very much.
For alter cloths the other weights that are used would be the 5.3 ounce 1C64 or IL019 and the 3.7 ounce IL020 all in optic white.
What is the difference in "bleached" and "optic white"?
Bleached is a warmer white whereas optic is a true bright, stark white.
Is this weight ok for elasticized pants, straight leg?
Yes, this fabric is ideal for elastic pants. We even used this fabric when we sampled our Magda free pattern. So head on over to the pattern page to see this fabric made up.
Will this be the right fabric for a Plain Fold Roman Shade?
Yes, you can use this fabric for that type of shade
I'm sewing a slipcover for a headboard- will this fabric be appropriate or is there another weight/finish I should use?
This is our recommended fabric for slipcovers and headboards :)
I am making a table cloth for a wedding gift. I would like to know how i should launder before sewing and after. Thanks in advance!!

Roman shades what type of fabric to be used
Our customers will use a middleweight linen, such as IL019 or 1C64 if they would like the shade to be smoother in look and feel. If a sturdier more rustic linen is needed they will use the 4C22
I need a bright white (not off white). linen... is this the one?
This is a true bright white.
This linen is listed as "heavy" yet several photos suggest that it is a see-through weave. Is there a heavier, denser white linen? Also, one of the questions and responses suggested that the tint of the Optic White can change from one dye lot to another. Is the current supply a true white white without yellowness or pink (the photo looks faintly pinkish on my tablet)? Thanks so much. I've order with you in that past and was quite happy ... I need heavier and white white linen this time!
The current stock is a true bright white without a yellow or pink tint. Once laundered the weave will tighten. To make sure this weight will work for you we recommend ordering a sample as this is the heaviest bright white we currently offer.
Would this material work well to make white bath towels?
Yes very much so. Bleached is a warmer white so if you need a bright white we offer this linen in Optic White. This is the linen we use for our Bath Towel set Milos which you will find under our pattern section, it's a free PDF download.
Is this really white? I ordered this once beofre and it was an ivory color. I tried bleaching it and it still has a yellow cast. I had ordered this several years ago and it was an entirely different product than what I got the last time I ordered it. So before I order this, please tell me if it is white or ivory. Thank you.
The current stock on this item is a true bright white.
I would be happy to review this fabric, but I haven't received it and I have had no notice of shipment. You charged my card back in April.
Thank you for sending in your inquiry here and to our main email. We have sent an email to you with an update on the status of your order, which is still in transit with the carrier. If you did not receive the update that was emailed, please let us know so we can send it again. We look forward to your review once the linen has arrived.
I use it Fabric Store linen extensively for my embroidery projects sold on my Etsy shop (AdaliaSeasonalDecor.Etsy.com). While I often use IL019 signature finish, I reach for the 4C22 when I'm embroidering a design with more intensive stitching and it makes beautiful decorative pillows and table runners.
I got a scrap of this fabric to try for cross stitch. The weft and wrap are not even, so my crosses are rectangular rather than square, but it goes well with the pattern and so much more affordable than cross stitch linen. I tried dying it before stitching and it dyes beautifully and looks great after it dryed. I highly recommend this fabric for cross stitch, and would love it if there was something just like it but with even ct weft and wrap (36 or 38 ct would be perfect).
Hi! Happy to hear the cloth worked out for your project. We do have a linen that is engineered specifically for embroidery with an even warp/weft count of 49. Just search for 1C64 or copy/paste this link: fabrics-store.com/all-fabrics?article=1C64
I made bath towels out of this fabric. My son is moving out and I'm giving him my old towels. I double-folded and hemmed the edges and mitered the corners. They turned out great. They are absorbent, dry quickly and look nice hanging. I bought some other colors to make shirts. I love this fabric.
Bought this linen to make bath sheets and bath mats and worked perfectly. I have had the towels over a year now and they still look brand new. I love how this material absorbs a lot water however dries quickly and does not get musky. This particular linen 42CC is not the softest of them all, but I enjoy the "scrub" feeling you get while drying out with it.
