Bleached color is achieved by "stripping" the natural pigment out of the fibers( just like you would with bleaching hair). What you are left with is a very soft shade that is just ever so slightly an off-white color.
Bleached is the basics of any project and loves being dyed. It is actually what we use to dye the colors. A truly versatile base and a must-have addition to your fabric repertoire.

A 57 inch wide heavier linen weighing 8.1 ounces it is referred to as canvas weight , this linen is perfectly suited for projects that require a sturdier yet still fashionable linen.

Is this linen suitable for drapes? I am concerned it might be too heavy. I am planning for linen panels with a blackout linning for my living room.

Susan • July 15, 2023
Maureen profile image F|S Team

This is heavier than the 4C22 which we discussed on the phone but it is also used for drapes - please request a sample to compare to see of this will work for your project.

Would this fabric be suitable for outerwear such as a big coat? Will it drape nicely?

Alicia • September 21, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

This will depend on the amount of drape you desire (since this is subjective) and the pattern/ design you intend to make your jacket. We recommend getting a sample and/or emailing our helpful customer service team with a photo of your desired look or pattern information and we would be happy to match you with the most appropriate fabric.

1. Is the linen washed (and therefore, shrunk) during bleaching? 2. If so, is it hot-washed, cool-washed, or warm-washed? 3. Will it shrink again if washed in cool or warm water? I'm trying to figure out if it's been preshrunk at all, and if so, TO WHAT DEGREE shrinkage has already occurred, or must I pre-wash a bolt of fabric before I begin sewing slipcovers for my couch cushions... ideally, pre-shrunk in hot water, so maximum shrinkage has occurred and future cool washing is possible without fear of wrecking the fit of my project! 4. If no shrinkage yet, is it possible to pay you to preshrink the bolt?

Hello, This fabric has not had any pre-shrinkage, and we do not offer a pre-shrinking service I'm sorry. For washing and shrinkage advice, please see this Help Center Article: support.fabrics-store.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000218543-Fabric-Care-Pre-washing-and-Washing-your-Cotton-and-Linen-Fabrics

I love this linen. I have been using it to create Thread Sketches which I paint using a variety of mediums (Gelatos, Inks, Dyes). I back it with ShapeFlex when using these as blocks in quilts to prevent possible bearding of the batt through the weave. I've created pillows, table runners, placemats, and now I am using lighter weight linen with this concept for garments. This weight is perfect for quilts & home decor. It's texture really adds to the style of art I'm using it for. Love this linen! you can see photos of it on my website...trishstuart.com.

18" sofa pillow in bleached linen with stencil in dark green.

Beautiful linen made these Holiday Pillows.

Anne • November 18, 2021

I made a pair of linen pillow cases using the bleached white for the larger portion and shadow grey for the cuff. They came out amazing.

Anne • October 18, 2020

Painted thread sketched images on this project with Gelatos on heavyweight linen. I'm using these (and teaching others how to use them) in quilts, home decor and lighter weight linen in garments. It is a great foundation for adding Gelatos, water based or alcohol inks, and dyes. Yummy, and the linen is stiff enough to hold up under painting but washes beautifully, softening and retaining the colors. It's really been fun to create using this as a foundation.
