Dark and decadent, the midnight tone of DRESS BLUE Linen envelops characters in Antony van Dyck's stirring portraits, enveloping them in a brooding, dramatic aura.

Master of the Flemish Baroque, van Dyck was the most successful portrait painter of his day, most notably for King Charles I of England. Stark, chiaroscuro contrasts of light and dark define his theatrical style, while deep, midnight blue is the ideal backdrop for investing sitters with pervading mystery and intrigue.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Dress Blue Softened

This is one of my all-time favorites! The linen is a dream to work with and really comfortable to wear even in the searing heat.

Throw

Perfect color and weight for a throw. Linen is not too heavy and I thought I would try this material for a throw for this fall/ winter. It seems perfect and I know I will love them.

Love linen

I've been sewing for years. Next to cotton for quilting I like garments from linen. Softens as wearing and washing. Sews up beautifully, and face it if it lasts all the millions of years in Pharaoh's tombs it's going to hold up under normal wearing.

First blouse, very satisfied

I am not an experienced seamstress, but i have a fascination with and addiction to linen. I used the simplest blouse pattern i could find and an off cut to familiarize myself with the material and how it behaves in a machine (I generally prefer hand sewing). It was a little wobbly, but i really like the result. The edges flounce ever so slightly, and that is ok for the style of blouse I chose. "Sewing with butter" is an appropriate description. On a similar material i did find that more than two layers stitched up much better under a walking foot, but i use a walking foot a lot, and as few pins as possible, so maybe that's just my weird self-taught technique.

Trigg shorts from elbe_textiles made with 1L019 Dress Blue softened. I love this fabric, so easy to work with and a beautiful navy.

I made this top from Vogue 8913 (although I modified it) out of Mix Natural and Dress Blue. Dress Blue is the PERFECT navy. Even after being washed/dried, the color remained deeply saturated.

Love this rich blue color! Had some extra yardage and made ruffled bloomers, washed twice and tumbled dry on low. Now, they have that lived-in feel that I love.
