Our best selling Grey for many years, this slightly faded version brings a vintage vibe to a tried and true color.  ASPHALT linen mimics the tone of Vicken Parson's cool, mid-grey shadows, a color suggesting the concrete pavements, rain soaked bricks and hardened metal of the urban jungle.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.

As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

Since this linen is preshrunk do I need to wash it prior to sewing? What is best needle size to use? Thanks

Yes, we recommend pre-washing our fabrics prior to sewing. The best needle is a universal 80 or 90 depending on our preference or machine information booklet. For more information on both of these topics please see our Help Center: support.fabrics-store.com/hc/en-us

I sewed the Riva pants with this fabric and they are now my favorite pants. The softness of this linen is unparalleled.

Lovely Sheets

Love the sheets made for my split King bed - cozy, comfy and durable. Store bought sheets are trashed after a few weeks because of my hubby's tough toe nails but this fabric has taken the test for a couple of months and there is not a snag nor fuzzy at all! I appreciate all the helpful articles and advice that Fabrics-store has available from what type of thread to the type of needle needle for various linens. Even the color number for thread to match the color of linen you have purchased!

Linen Fabric

I have never ordered from this store and I was a little sceptical, my fabric arrived and it was exactly as described. I made a top and I got many compliments on the color and style. I love it!

Self-drafted shorts in the last of my IL019 Asphalt stash! This fabric is lovely and soft and drapey and holds all of the pocket folds beautifully for a clean looking finish.

I bought two colors of the mid-weight linen to make capris (Simplicity 1887). It's just the right weight. These are the asphalt gray. I am very happy with my pants and look forward to wearing them this summer.

Self Drafted Pants made with FS ASPHALT Midweight Signature Finish Linen. These pants have been living in my brainspace for several months and while I tried to put the thought to fabric with indie designer patterns, none of them produced quite what I had in mind. Then, I met Jocie of JocieByHand (her own slow fashion brand) and she had created a pair of pants that were the closest to what I had been imagining all this time. While she wasn't selling the pants or the pattern at the time, she was very generous with her time and shared tips and techniques to try my hand at making my own personal pair.

I used IL019 Ash softened to make the Box Pleat Dress from Japanese independent pattern maker LINNET (Etsy Store Patternerie) and love the result. My photo doesn't do the fabric justice. The color is deeper grey than my photo reflects and very even. I can always count on IL019 softened to be less likely to get those wadded paper type of wrinkles through the day that other linen tends to get. This linen is so comfortable and soft.
