Painter, poet, filmmaker and sculptor, Danish artist Per Kirkeby had a prolific practice spanning multiple styles, but underpinning his ideas was a fascination with the structures and patterns of nature.
The fertile, olive shade of green in DRIED HERB Linen appeared often in his evocative, expressive paintings, a color that allowed him to express the emotional beauty and power of the Danish landscape. His view of nature was seen at ground level, where wild tangles of leaves and bracken allow new roots and shoots to emerge from their depths.
At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

I love the signature linen fabric I have purchased in the past. Don't know why I opted for this rustic version instead. I guess I thought the heavier weight would create a nicer drape for the trousers i had in mind. But I cant do it. I should have paid more attention to the description than to the weight.
You never know exactly what a color will actually look like when you order online. I took a chance on this green, and absolutely LOVE it!! It is the perfect green. Dried herb describes it well. I made a cross back apron and it came out great. I am keeping this in my wishlist.

I've been making art quilts and purchased a variety of linen to supplement some of my hand dyed fabrics. This was a great addition. And the weight would be good for jackets, etc. I am so happy I discovered the Fabrics Store. Love the linen selections.
Finished Projects
Billie pant in dried herb—I've washed them a few times and the color retains its original shade. I've paired them with a longer hem version of Augustina in 019 insignia blue. Oak tree background, indirect morning light.
One hot wash and dry on the right, left I think I did more than that. Just wanted to share a color comparison between LEFT: DB IL019 All-purpose Agave Fs Signature Finish - 100% Linen - Medium (5.3 oz/yd2) MIDDLE: DB 4C22 Rustic Dried Herb Softened - 100% Linen - Heavy (7.1 oz/yd2) RIGHT: 4C22 Rustic Dusty Lotus Softened - 100% Linen - Heavy (7.1 oz/yd2 Personal opinion: when they're next to each other, dried herb takes on more of a brown/yellow cast, and agave takes more of a aqua cast. Even the lotus is a bit of a blue cast in indoor light. Honestly, the comparison makes dried herb and agave look a lot "worse" but I do love all three. The dried herb is quite similar in color to a Son de Flor dress I bought. I do REALLY love the dusty lotus though, it's very nice. It's definitely not an in-your-face green like I would define the color "emerald" but it's really lovely. The other two are a lot more green when not next to other greens. For example, agave is a really lovely green when paired with natural linen.
With Lauren's help, I made the Paola jacket with welt pockets. I love this color and am really pleased with the way the jacket turned out. Fabrics-Store tutorials are so helpful!
I used this fabric as the contrast trim on my attempts at a 16th Century German Trossfrau ensemble. The fabric was an absolute dream to work with, and I shudder to think how badly the attempt might have turned out with lower quality fabric. I did soak, wash, dry and iron before cutting, to preemptively resolve any bleeding or shrinking issues. It did not bleed muchDid during the soak, the color stayed very true, but I did have some small amount of shrinkage. As with any linen I have ever seen (and most woven fabrics for that matter) fraying could have been an issue, but I got out head of that as well, by serging the edges whenever possible (not accurate, but I am still enough of an amateur that structure is more important)
