A visual reproduction of French Ticking that combines classic design elements with a modern color palette and pays homage to the exquisite example of textile manufacturing.

Using a more modern color palette allowed us to coordinate them with several of our most popular solid colors already available in our linen collection.  This cloth is woven in the Natural, White, Bluish Green color way. Just look for the matching color names in solid colors, and you will have a shade match to the Ticking.

IL087 Normandy is a 59 inch wide, 100% linen fabric constructed using long-staple wet combed linen with 32% higher density than our All-Purpose medium weight linen. This fabric has the thickness needed in interior design and to last for ages.

Our design team replicated the unique elements of the French Ticking fabric, a tight herringbone weave and yarn-dyed threads, to bring you an authentic but updated version of the time-honored original.

The dyes we used for the threads make the fabric colorfast and the bold stripe patterns will not bleed onto your main cloth allowing for at-home laundering without issue.

The dyeing of the yarns before weaving the design allowed us to create a vivid contrast of the stripes to the background color and the patterns will retain their true shade, unlike the imitation ticking that uses print to apply the designs.

Normandy collection is a must-have fabric to create French Interiors allowing you to replicate not just the structural architecture but to carry the style throughout the soft interior touches. This fabric design adds soft visual breaks to cottage-style interiors and softens ascetic designs. Design created and available exclusively at F|S.

The Premier Finish undergoes a two-step process to give the cloth a luxurious, supple feel right out of the box.

First, we apply a softener to give the fabric a silkier surface. Then, strong blasts of air are blown into the woven cloth. This beats up the fibers to make them softer and mimics the fiber bending process that the fabric undergoes when you've used it a lot.

This finishing process gives the fabric a much softer and more luxurious hand. It will be less prone to deep creases and have less linting. Shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration based on the fabric type ( thread size, count, weave type).

I love the feel and look this fabric has and I am considering making queen sheets from it. Does this seem likely to work? I have seen that you have sheet patterns on your site and a couple different ones. Do you have any advice about what approach might be best?

Would this fabric work well as kitchen towels?

We have not had any feedback on this linen being used for kitchen towels but there should not be an issue using it for that purpose. Customers have used this linen for napkins which need to be absorbent and durable for constant use like kitchen towels. Maybe see if there is a piece in the DB section to test.

Is there a solid color that matches the Tourmaline? I just love it and I'd love to make an ensemble for my friend's kitchen using two colors...

I would suggest taking a look at the Meadow in either IL019 or 4C22. Swatches are available for purchase to see if this will work for your intended project.

Fabulous tablecloth fabric

I've used almost all of the various FS linens, and this French ticking tops my list. It's not only beautiful with a slight sheen on the finish, but it is tightly woven and sturdy, with the softest hand of all the linens. I needed to add more width to this tablecloth so I bordered it with 4C22 natural. Because the natural is a different weave and shrinks more, I washed and machine dried it 3 times before sewing them together. I couldn't be more pleased with the result!

Makes nice sheets!

I made a queen fitted sheet out of doggie bag cuts. I did it a little differently than the available sheets pattern because the shrinkage of the fabric is less so after washing, the width was the same as a queen bed. I used double lapped seam down the edges and french seams at the corners. After washing 2x, the fabric is very soft and cozy to sleep on and I estimate the sheet will last approximately forever, getting softer and cozier all the while. With 7 yards, I had enough fabric for the fitted sheet and two pillow cases. The only awkward seam in the whole thing is where I pieced the doggie bag cuts together and if I went for my own seven 7 yard cut of fabris (which I might) It would be an entirely gorgeous sheet, At present I just keep that part down at the foot of the bed under the covers and I can't feel it. This is a little bit of an expensive way to go to make a fitted sheet, but those always wear out on me first (and in a year or two) when I buy sheets and this one won't, so I think it will be more than worth the money. I am thinking about making a flat sheet out of this too. The only hesitation is that the fabric feels heavy and I have never had sheets that heavy on me.

Thanks for your insightful review of this fabric! Given the herringbone weave, this fabric will last a long time, so we're sure you're going to love it! If you wanted something lighter for a flat sheet, you might consider the Il019 medium weight or IL020 light weight fabrics. We find these fabrics light and airy to sleep with.

This French ticking is so beautiful, and it pairs well with the 4C22 natural color. The result is a gorgeous tablecloth that will live through our friend and family gatherings for many years.
