4C22 Rustic Natural Softened - 100% Linen Fabric - Heavy (7.1 oz/yd2) - 0.30 Yard, Width 57"
Natural is the earth made, not dyed, color of the flax plant once it is made into thread. No dyes, no bleach. The only thing that impacts the color of the cloth from one production to the next ( if it is more beige or grey) is the amount of sunshine and rain that particular flax harvest had.
At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Customer Questions and Answers
I'm considering the Rustic Natural fabric to make a slipcover for a sofa and think the softened fabric will have a better hand. Is it too thick and heavy so the 5+ oz size would work better?
We've found our customers select a fabric that best suits their overall desired look and the amount of use their sofa will get when selecting a fabric, as for softness, if your slip covers will get a lot of use, they will soften naturally with time and washing, and you can also use our softener designed for our fabrics. Please contact our customer service staff directly if you'd like to discuss your needs in more detail and we'd be happy to help you select the right fabric for you.
Is this good as an upholstery fabric?
Yes it is one of the preferred choices for upholstery projects. We have samples available for purchase to make sure this will work for your item or items.
how does this work for dish cloths
Yes this linen makes up into hearty dish towels that can be jazzed up or kept simple depending on what you are looking for.
How do you think it would hold up as a fishing creel? Back in the day there were multiple manufacturers that made creels out flax linen, but I'm unsure the weight of fabric used. Thank you
I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with this style of fishing creel. I would suggest getting some samples so you can touch and feel them before committing to yardage.
When lining linen, what fabric do you recommend eg jackets, skirts? Thx!
We love lining our linen items with another linen fabric, often one weight lighter than the main fabric. So if you are using our 4C22 or IL019 medium weight, you may like to use the lightweight IL020 linen.
how much shrinkage in length can I expect when washing SO 4c22?
When washing this fabric, approximately 10% shrinkage is normal when following our recommended washing instructions.
3 yards of this rustic linen, fold and roll it up then head to the beach, unroll against the breeze and you have a nice, fancy beach towel. Cut out the frayed edges, place on top of your stainless steel dining table, put a piece of leather fabric on top and cover with a clear, thick plastic for a unique table linen. For cool nights at the tropics, use as a blanket or bed cover.
This fabric is billed as rustic natural, and that's what it is. There are lots of light-colored slubs and lots of little bits of golden-brown grassy stuff woven in. But I like the texture of it and I like the pants I made from it. This fabric is a significantly heavier and thicker than the mid-weight IL019 linen. I am surprised by how much difference that additional two ounces per yard makes. My pants will be too heavy for summer; they'll be better for spring and fall. There was some shrinkage. Before cutting my pattern I washed the fabric in warm water, tumble-dried low. I lost about 3" per yard lengthwise, and the 58" width shrank to 55-1/2".
i love this weight and the two colors i bought. i plan to get more for some 18th century pants i am going to make. i am REALLY glad you pack things so well in plastic because fedex left it outside in the rain!
After seeing the article about the benefits of linen towels, I decided to make some for gifts. I layered the heavyweight natural with the black and embroidered the name on the top layer. I just love the results and plan to make more.
I have ordered small quantities of this fabric and now have ordered a whole bolt. This fabric is very easy to work with and sew. Its fantastic for embroidery. It lends itself to a variety of projects. I have made wine totes, aprons, and want to make my kid's and loved ones embroidered pillow cases and bread/food bags.
The Rustic Natural 7 ounce linen is perfect for an 18th century period garment known alternatively as a hunting frock, hunting shirt, or rifle shirt. My reenactment unit portrays the 2nd Pennsylvania regiment. They were invited to help celebrate July 4th at the Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Here, one young member strikes up a conversation with Alexander Hamilton, perhaps to explain the benefits of the frock's fringed trim (hint: it wicks off rain). Hunting frock made by me, Kat Crippen, The Wool Merchant's Daughter, out of linen from -- where else? -- fabrics-store.com, the go-to spot for linen, whatever your time period!
