The pioneering Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi painted a world of rich, decadent and warm tones like MARSALA , which she coupled with dramatic, heightened chiaroscuro. Her paintings draw us into private worlds where theatrical, sometimes terrifying stories play out, or melancholic heroines are overcome with strong emotion. As the most successful female painter of her day, she often focussed on female subjects, painting martyred women who had suffered great loss or found strength in the face of adversity, reflecting the struggles she, too, had overcome in her long and eventful life. Baroque shades of red aided in her storytelling capacities, adding flashes of tension, passion or drama into her scenes.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 59 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

PS

I am making a garment out of Rose color medium weight linen. I need more. Do you have any Rose in stock, and if not, what would be the closest color to match it.

BringYourOwnFluff profile image A Warm, Faded Red

The color is sort of like a lightly faded red with just a hint of orange to it, making it a slightly warmer red. This linen, like all that I order from here is a nice quality, with a few slubs/loose threads here or there that I pull to the wrong side of the fabric with a small crochet hook. Not a big deal! Like all linens, this fabric gets much, much softer with machine washing and drying.

I am making the Tina Givens Elope from this fabric. It is a beautiful color, but I think it is more suited to a warm skin, and I have a cool skin color.

My riyal blue peplum linen top and slight flared skirt 5.3 with a white 3.7 linen cape over. Very comfortable for the occasion. I love this fabric, sooo easy to work with all the time.

This is the marsala medium weight linen. Love it!

I decided to try out this beautiful color and I'm so glad I did! It's a lovely vibrant color and the medium weight is soft and perfect for tops or dresses. I made this little girl's medieval dress with it from my own pattern and am very happy with how it turned out!
