My previous review expressed concern about the odor of this fabric. After washing 4 times, twice including a 45min soak in vinegar, the fabric smells very tolerably of fresh linen! I planned on making two large bath towels but after the washes, I made one huge towel for my six feet 2 inch husband. It is still wonderfully crisp and perfect for him. Great stuff!

Exactly what I wanted. Great texture after washing and drying. It does have a very strong odor-reminds me of an old thatched roof. I have washed it twice with minimal decrease in the odor. Any ideas?

When this fabric arrived I was shocked at how thin it was. How could it possibly end up as thick and gorgeous as the pillow in that photo? But after one washing to preshrink, it had ruffled into a gloriously beautiful waffle weave. I always machine wash and dry linen three times before sewing. Yes, it did shrink - A TON. But I knew that and had ordered extra. I have been lying under the unfinished fabric this evening and I think I have had a change of plans. I will make towels later. This is going to be my cozy throw!

After reading great reviews, I ordered 10 yards of Thatch and Checker in Nэtural. I wanted to make a blancket for a queen size bed. This fabric shrinks a lot, like 1/3 of it was gone. But, that is not all. After washing and drying it 3 times, it still has a ton of lint on it. I am picking lint conctantely...it´s stucked to the fabric. I eded up making bath towels from this fabric. The good thing I like scratchy linen towels. To me, it feels great. I truly think, the fabric is overpriced for what it is. Could be a wonderfull fabric if it wasn´t for the sticky lint which make this fabric look old and worn. I am sorry to write a negative review, but I had to.

I discovered linen 3 yrs ago.I bought some linen sheet from LinenCrafts on etsy and loved them. I then went to a visa fabrics on etsy and bought thicker wide width fabric 2 sew into sheets. These sheets were amazing! When I received the thatch and checker linen from fabric store ripped the box open.I pulled out a beautiful yet very scratchy material. I am hoping this will make an awesome blanket in our bedroom for at least a decade. I will update you guys on what it is like to work with this fabric and send a pic as well.

This shrinks a great deal, and becomes thick and textured. I currently dont have dryer so couldn´t experiment with a short time in the dryer to finish it off, so it dried crisp. So I am in decision making mode, it is amazing to sleep on and it softened... I have irish linen and ferguson irish linen sheeting so that puts it in context.. Would make a wonderful simple shift frock with minimal seams or excellent towels or an interesting thing to lie on. Bodies didn´t get horrible smooth things like cotton to lie on until very recently, and nerve endings all over I assure you get an interesting workout when lying on this. As towels would be excellent, fast drying, no smells, no fungi or bacteria or worse can lurk and its is a bit stretchy and stimulating on the skin. Definitely interesting fabric. I have my 3 metres now shrunk to smaller and cannot yet bear to cut it.

Purchased 1 yard to test it. Washed & dried it and got the beautiful ruffled effect. At first it is a little harsh to the touch, but with use it becomes quite soft. Been using this yard as a shawl - very warm & cuddly. Lovely drape. Very rich color. Love it. Only gave it 4 stars because it was a bit harsh to the touch initially; but it does soften with use.

Unusually stretchy for linen after washing & drying...so unique it´s hard to stop touching it. Take a yard, fringe generously, & you´ll have a perfect photo prop for baby. It would be great for a throw; so snuggly. :) Note: Next time I use it, I´m going to sew first allowing for shrinkage BEFORE washing so the threads don´t get caught in the sewing machine foot.

I bought one yard to experiment. I had thought to make a bag with it. Because it has drape, I would interface it. A vest would also be attractive. The gathered effect can be accomplished by washing and then hanging out to dry. This fabric waffles up according to the thatch and checker pattern. I hope that you will try to have other patterns woven. A zig zag pattern would ruffle up wonderfully.

I purchased this fabric to make table runners. I chose to wash it in hot water and dry it in a hot dryer so that it would pucker up. I love the look. It is perfect for my project.

IL008 NATURAL THATCH AND CHECKER - 100% Linen The Thatch and Checker Jacquard has two very unique weaves, incorporated into one fabric. This is a very textured linen that is great to touch and observe. This layered linen is great for curtains and upholstery.

IL008 NATURAL THATCH AND CHECKER - 100% Linen NOTES ON THATCH AND CHECKER JACQUARD LINEN:
- The Thatch and Checker Jacquard is a dually layered linen.
- When washed, the fabric will take on a beautifully ruffled and textured look as shown in the picture above.
- If you do not want your Jacquard to acquire this "three dimensional" texture, then simply dry clean the fabric instead of regular machine wash.
