My first attempt at sewing with linen was a few weeks ago with this gorgeous jacquard. I read all the reviews carefully before ordering and was intrigued with the idea of making hand towels. When the jacquard arrived I was surprised at the stiffness and proceeded to wash and dry several times (after zigzagging the sides). What a beautifully soft and puckered result! I was able to get 4 handtowels from the one yard I purchased and will definitely be buying more to make bath-sized towels. Also bought the IL019 and made a cosmetic bag. Very excited to start this linen journey!

For Vogue #9212, use 1/4" covered all purpose shoulder pads and you need to make sleeve heads to support the sleeve cap for this fabric. It will be beautiful!

For anyone wanting to use this fabric to upholster chair cushions. Use a corse heavy iron on interfacing on back. You can layer the interfacing 2-3 times depending on how thick you want it.That will stablize and make the fabric thicker. Make sure the fabric is washed and dried 5 times first.

I bought 4 yds of this linen. I washed and dried 5 times. From 63 inch wide, it scrunk 23 inches. The 4 yds l bought also scrunk 23 inches in length. This fabric is stunning.l had to order 2 more yds because a couple of patterns had to be cut 4 times. l´m making a new Vogue jacket pattern. Re order is in transet. When recieved, l will wash/dry 5 times. Will post item when done! Wow...what a project! Just preparing the fabric! And l haven´t started the jacket yet! Ha-ha!.....so giving everyone heads up on this....gageing on the percentage of this fabric shrinking....plan on ordering more than what you need! You wont be sorry!

Reviewer: Marilyn
What a beautiful and elegant fabric! I originally bought it four years ago to cover 3 large, well-used window seats. Since then, I have bought lots more to make tea towels and a throw, which I use every day and wash frequently in hot water. The fabric wears like iron, but gets softer with every wash. I really look forward to wrapping up in my cozy throw at the end of a hard day. Napping on the window seat, covered by the throw, is heaven, especially on a dark and drizzly afternoon. I recently bought a vintage robe pattern and 7 yds of this linen to try to duplicate the gorgeous bathrobe on this page. I was very upset when the fabric hadn´t arrived after 15 days. I called Customer Service and spoke to Maureen, who immediately began researching what had happened. Maureen called me back, said the package had been lost, assured me that a new length of linen would be on its way, and that I would have it within the week. True to her word, I received the fabric in 6 days and am VERY happy. What a great product from a great company!

I took the advice of a prior reviewer and washed my fabric in hot water before cutting. The texture is just wonderful, and while you do sacrifice yardage, the end result is so very worthwhile. Out of a yard, I made my daughter a set of four kitchen towels of (if I remember correctly) 13"x22" and eight dishcloths of 6"x6". There is enough texture to wash dshes or to gently exfoliate in the bath. I imagine from what other reviews indicate that they will soften considerably and become washcloths eventually. I used the selvedges and stitched around the other sides of the towels in a medium straight stitch leaving about a 1/4" to let them fringe a bit. For the cloths, I used a short narrow zig zag. They are lovely, and she is thrilled!

I bought this jacquard design to make a third set of towels (two bath, two hand, two washcloths), and I love the texture it´s got after a hot wash-and-dry. The all-over puckering will make this my most "plush" set of the three. It would also make a sweet summer blanket. I´m very tempted...

review star review star review star review star review star   For Garment Sewing
Reviewer: Penelope
If you would like to use this for garment sewing (see photo of robe) take the time to pre-wash the linen several times on hot. To maintain the loft as you sew, press (not iron), use lots of steam, and be sure to check all of your seam lengths with your original pattern as the fabric stretches as a result of shrinking to get the nice lofty quality. After sewing each seam, re-shrink with steam to remove any rippling that results from sewing the seams. If you do not own a dual feed attachment for your machine, this is the time you should invest in one. Be sure to stablize seams, like raglan sleeves, shoulder seams and neckline. Keep in Mind: The shrinkage is substantial -- my fabric shrinkage was 17% in length and 32% in width. The width transformed from 63 inches wide to 43 inches, which created the lovely loft; be sure to account for this new width as you plan your garment yardage. I am thinking this linen would also make an interesting and attractive jacket for summer...

I bought some to make towels similar to the ones Donna posted. When the fabric arrived, I loved it, and would give that 5 stars. I was even considering ordering more to make a bed cover. . First, I washed the fabric to test using it for towels and now it is so puckered that the width measures 43 inches. I bought extra and now I may not have enough -- and I´m not sure this puckered fabric will make towels I´d want to use. Ironing them would seem to take them too far the other way. Gorgeous fabric, but not at all sure about actually using it. Any thoughts from those who have already used it?

IL002 IVORY-NATURAL SCROLLS - 100% Linen This is a lovely fabric. I ordered two yards to make a throw for my Mother-in-law for Christmas. One surprise is this is two layers of bi-colored fabric bonded together. Washed it twice for the nice puckers creating a wonderful texture which nicely emphasizes the scrolling. I was a little worried about sewing it up but I pressed, overlocked, turned down and stitched. Washed a final time and it puckered back up perfectly. Great weight for a throw and I think she will be delighted!

IL002 IVORY-NATURAL SCROLLS - 100% Linen This is connected to the Vogue jacket #9212. Showing ribbon as stablizer for all seams. Then trim seams to eliminate bulk." Blot "with steam iron for opening seams and blocking .Its pretty weighty when finished. But feels great on!

IL002 IVORY-NATURAL SCROLLS - 100% Linen This is Vogue V9212.l strongly suggest you go down l size. Also take in generious seam allowances. The back of the pattern envelope is 3 areas that call for 3 yards, l bought 4 yds thinking it would be enough...wrong. l had to order 2 more yds. Fabric width is 63 in, it shrunk to approx 42 in. Washed/dried 5x in hot water. I steamed blocked the fabric before cutting out.Not a lot of waste of fabric. I used 1/8 in x 10 yds each, 2 spools of satin ribbon to use on ALL seam allowances to keep it from "growing". Perfect stablizer! Check all seam lengths as you go usuing your tissue patterns. Pin like crazy, keeping pins in as you sew the ribbon on the seam line. Jacket is lined in cotton/poly fabric. It's an easy pattern to make. I love it!

IL002 IVORY-NATURAL SCROLLS - 100% Linen I was in need of a new robe and thought linen would be a wonderful alternative to the usual terry cloth. Inspired by the photo of Marina's towels, I created this robe; the pattern is self-drafted. It is very weighty and required eight yards of fabric to account for the shrinkage that created the loft in the fabric. After washing and drying five times on hot, the fabric was ready to sew. It certainly is not like a 'plush' robe and has a slightly brushed texture like terry cloth, but definitely not uncomfortable - the perfect thing to put on after a hot shower.
